Clothing Attire at the Driving Range

The driving range is a place to go and practise your golfing technique to improve your handicap and overall golf game. They are open to the public and are also found in private golf clubs. But what clothing attire should be worn at the driving range? Does it differ to clothing worn at the golf course?

Firstly, when you go to the driving range, whether at a private club or public place, you are going there to practise for your own personal improvement. You are not in competition with others or on show. So therefore there is no need to wear your whites or whatever clothing your golf club specifies for the golf course. There may be more restrictions at a private club driving range, so just go along with their rules. A public driving range may have little or no restrictions, and so the idea would be to dress for comfort and ease of movement.

With the driving range taken into consideration, you can then dress appropriately for the weather. If the weather is hot you need to protect yourself from sunburn and overheating. A good choice then would be to wear cotton as it is soft, comfortable and flexible. Cotton keeps you cooler and drier as it helps sweat evaporate away from your body. If the weather is cooler, then start the game wearing a long sleeved top and sweatshirt or light jacket and remove a layer later if desired.

Whatever you wear, clothing needs to fit well and be comfortable. A suitable top could be a t-shirt or polo top. Some clubs require you to wear a collar. But remember, tops should be not too tight and not too loose. Tight tops may interfere with breathing. Loose tops may interfere with the swing. Women should wear a good supportive bra. For the lower half, pants like casual khakis or shorts when it is hot, can be worn. Make sure shorts are made from soft, breathable materials and that they fit well and are long enough to stop the thighs from chaffing. Shoes need to breathe well, have good traction for safety and fit well for comfort. Many golfers wear golfing shoes with cleats for practising. In fact many golfers want to look like a golfer who knows what they are doing and so feel good wearing the same clothing at the driving range as the golf course. This makes them feel good.

So all in all, clothing attire at the driving range should be comfortable and fit well with ease of movement with the weather taken into account. It can differ from the clothing worn at the golf course depending on which driving range you play at. However some golfers like to wear the same clothing at both places.

Driving Range Golf Balls

Amateurs and golfers wish to hone their skills by practicing on a driving range. The market today has specialized accessories for this kind of use that is, on a practice range or a tee. A driving range is a tee separate from the main golf course and is generally used for practice or a short game. These driving ranges may or may not be a part of a bigger golf course. Nowadays, many houses and offices have their own driving ranges where one can practice to one’s heart content and according to one’s free time. Also there are paid driving ranges that charge golfers on a per hour basis and/or require them to become members of the same.

When practicing at such driving ranges, special driving range golf balls need to be rented and used. These driving ranges have hard surface and therefore, the balls to be used here have to be in accordance with it. With the burgeoning number of driving ranges in the last two decades, specialized golf equipment, especially for the driving range has made its appearance. The most prominent among them are driving range golf balls. The other equipment essentially remains the same.

These golf balls are specifically manufactured for use on a driving range and differ on various counts from the usual golf ball used on a course. Golf balls made for driving ranges feature very hard covers so that they won’t be easily cut or damaged. Practice range balls also feature a distinctive coloring so as to distinguish them from the other normal balls to be used on a golf course. Range balls often have a black or red stripe going around them and are easily identified. Furthermore, driving range balls may also refer to used balls that are used for practice on a driving range.

Care drain threatens needy countries

To combat this problem, a coalition of Swiss health and humanitarian organisations has written a manifesto that addresses the worldwide need for properly trained healthcare professionals.

Medicus Mundi Switzerland, the Basel-based network of Swiss organisations active in international healthcare, published the ten-point manifesto on Monday. It calls for action to improve working conditions for health professionals both in Switzerland and abroad. In particular, it discourages Switzerland from poaching health workers from needier nations. “It’s very short-term thinking when developed countries like Switzerland meet their own shortages in healthcare workers by – directly or indirectly – recruiting from countries of the global south,” state the 26 organisations that have signed the manifesto. They also cite the World Health Organization (WHO) code of ethics condemning this practice – a code that Switzerland signed off on in May 2010.

It is estimated that every year, Switzerland educates about 5,000 too few new healthcare workers. Yet while Switzerland has about 30 doctors or nurses for every 1,000 residents, the statistics are vastly different in other places. According to the WHO, 57 countries have fewer than three doctors, nurses or midwives for every 1,000 people. Making matters worse, many of these health professionals emigrate to work in more developed countries for better pay. “Switzerland must refrain from actively recruiting from countries suffering from an acute staffing shortage,” said Medicus Mundi board member Martin Leschhorn Strebel at a media conference in Bern on Monday. Yet workers will immigrate to Switzerland regardless of whether they are actively recruited or not. “It would be good to have a registry of foreign people coming to Switzerland to work in hospitals or in private care. If we knew how many there were, and where they were, then we could also talk to them,” Christine Rutschmann of the Swiss Red Cross told swissinfo.ch. “Some are going back to their home countries, and maybe they’re interested in collaborating on projects run by the local ministries of health.” She shared statistics about Bulgaria, noting that 600 doctors had been trained there in 2011. However, some 600 doctors and 1,000 nurses leave for Western Europe every year – often to care for elderly people. In Bulgaria their monthly salary ranges from €200-500 (SFr240-605) per month – far less than what they can earn abroad.

” We can also offer something to the people who stay there, whether it’s topping up the salaries or supporting schooling for children, or housing. ” Svend Capol, Swiss Organisation for Health in Africa

Roswitha Koch of the Swiss Nursing Association says that in theory the solution is easy: every country – regardless of its wealth – has to train enough health workers and do everything to keep them in the national health system. But in practice it is more complicated than that. Within Switzerland she calls for more openings for trainees as well as enough funding to help finance their education. In addition, she notes that the working conditions have to improve. Koch says that while it is generally a good profession, unsatisfactory conditions are the reason why the average care worker quits after just ten years. Koch also highlights the importance of improving the situation for healthcare workers around the world. “If you have to work far out in the countryside where there is no school for your children, no running water, no proper housing – then you are not motivated to go there. These are areas where Swiss development cooperation could invest,” Koch told swissinfo.ch.

Svend Capol, president of the Swiss Organisation for Health in Africa, worked as a doctor in Lesotho for two and a half years. He can understand that medical workers from poor countries might want to experience what it is like to work in a state-of-the-art facility abroad. “Everyone should have the freedom to choose,” Capol told swissinfo.ch. “We can also offer something to the people who stay there, whether it’s topping up the salaries or supporting schooling for children, or housing. There are different benefits that we can have a look at and that we would also support.” As Koch puts it, Swiss development cooperation could be a way of compensating for the care drain that occurs when medical professionals come to work in Switzerland.

The Most Helpful Driver Golf Swing – Medicus

If there is one thing that many newbie golfers worry about it is how to increase their golf swing speed. The goal of these golfers is to have a fast, powerful yet smooth swing that will give the proper amount of energy to the ball so it would be propelled hard and accurately down the grass.

There are many things that a golfer can do to increase his swing speed. Some of the exercises that improve golf swing speed are so basic that they are probably being performed already by most golfers without them knowing it.

Many amateur golfers fall into the trap of swinging hard in order to increase swing speed. If you have tried this method, then you already know that it is not effective. In fact, a hard tense swing often results on a slow swing. Of course, this is not what golfers want.

Contrary to popular belief, the body part that is most important in increasing swing speed are not the arms. It is actually your core or the center of your body. The stronger your core is, the more power you will be able to transfer to your arms.

So if you want to increases your golf swing speed you must absolutely work on your core. And it doesn’t entail doing hundreds or even thousands of situps or crunches everyday. There are many core exercise that are actually more effective in developing you midsection than situps or crunches.

To develop your core, you could do exercises using medicine balls or weighted cables. Rotational exercises – those exercises that require twisting – are best in developing ones core.

One of the simplest and most effective core exercise is the rotational exercise using a golf club. This is performed by sitting upright while holding a club behind the back over the shoulders. Rotate slowly and deliberately to the right and then to the left. Do this movement 10 times for each side for 3 sets.

If you are religiously in doing core developing exercises regularly, you will notice that your swing speed will increase in time. And this increase in speed translates into powerful and longer drives.

KTVN Channel 2 – Reno Tahoe News Weather, Video – Old golf center gets new life as paintball course

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) – A run-down former driving range in North Las Vegas is getting new life as a three-field paintball course fit for competition.

The Las Vegas Sun reports (bit.ly/w94v9E) Chris England will be opening Vegas Xtreme Paintball Saturday at the site of the old Jupiter Golf Center.

England says he's spent a year renovating a 7,500-square-foot building that houses an arcade and plans to also open a mini golf course on site by summer.

England is an officer at Nellis Air Force Base and says he envisioned the paintball course each time he drove past the vacant golf center on his way home. He previously owned a paintball field in Georgia.

He says paintball players without a proper facility will sometimes play out in the desert, which is not as safe.

Golf Practice – The Best Way to Lower Your Score

Although it is not as attractive as simply buying the most expensive club out there or doing one extra thing to your swing, golf practice is simply the ultimate way to become a better golfer. Practicing will bring you to a higher playing level whether you are just starting off or about to be joining the pro tour.

Golf practice will allow you to get a feel for the ball and of your swing. With considerable amounts of practice you should be able to create a swing that is both consistent and repeatable. This way you can hit the ball where you want every single time that you hit it.

Now golf practice may seem like that tedious task that you don’t want to be doing but it really isn’t all that bad and you don’t have to be at the golf course to have to do it. All you need to do is take out whatever club it is that you are practicing with and go to either the backyard, office, living room, or wherever it is that you have enough space to do a full and proper swing. Although the local golf course or driving range would be the ideal place.

So if you want to lower your score than golf practice is certainly a promising solution for you, after all there was a reason for the saying practice makes perfect. It may take a little bit more hard work then some other alternative but it is certainly going to be worth it if you find yourself becoming a much better golf player.

Golf Course Driving Range Architects

Kevin, tell us – what are the most important considerations when someone is setting up a driving range? Frequently, when people approach us about designing a driving range they are just thinking about the range. When we meet with our clients, we try to help them understand that it may make sense to think about this as more than just a driving range. Ideally it should be a golf learning center. This can include a putting green, some practice bunkers, possibly a place for some indoor lessons.

We try to help them understand that, as a marketing tool, the nicer your practice facility is the better positioned you will be at attracting new members, especially if you are a private club. It really is a benefit and an asset. If we can do something more than just a driving range, it will serve the golf course well.

What are the kinds of things you look at when setting up an exceptional driving range? In this day and age, with the developments of technology, we generally have to set up the range to be about 330 yards long because people are simply driving the ball that much farther these days.

So we start with a driving range, then we like to set up an area at the back of the tee where we can set up mats. This is helpful because sometimes you may need to work on the driving area and you might want the turf to be able to recuperate.

We also like to see a good putting area that is about 10,000 – 15,000 square feet.

We also encourage some sort of short game facility. That could be another practice green that would have some chipping areas, some practice bunkers, something that you could hit something 20 – 60 yards.

We generally try to provide some sort of a facility that would allow you to practice all aspects of the game, including: driving, chipping, putting and sand shots.

I’m sure safety has to be an important consideration when you are setting these up? Orientation and having adequate space are two important considerations.. We generally would not want to have a driving range that would have other high traffic areas such as a golf hole or the clubhouse or houses on the right side of the range, the slice side of the hole. So we always try to separate that a little bit.

What about driving range nets? Whenever possible, we try to put the practice facility where we don’t have to use nets. Nets can be quite expensive and not particularly attractive so we avoid them whenever possible.

What about how the range stalls are set up and the design of actual facility? There’s some common sense issues like circulation on and around the teeing area, things that we do about radiusing the tee (pointing the tee a little left of center), looking at the overall orientation, the prevailing winds, the rising or the setting sun. Ideally we would like to set the range up to the northeast – we don’t like it pointing directly to the east or the west.

We also like to set up some target greens on the range so that there is something interesting for people to aim for.

What about considerations for the actual landing area? There can be problems with the golf balls getting beat up if the surface of the driving range is not in good condition. Problems like rocky surfaces, poor drainage, etc.

This is really a function of turf quality and maintenance and proper construction. You want to make sure that rocks and debris are removed before you put the seed in the ground. You need to also make sure that you have a quality stand of grass out there. Irrigation, fertilizer, maintenance and drainage are all important to make sure you have good healthy turf.

Any other considerations that a developer should consider when they are developing a driving range? I would suggest that if people are considering building a practice facility they should find themselves an architect to work through the process of exploring their options. I would encourage them to get detailed plans and work out all the details of drainage and safety issues.
