FRANKFORT, Ind. (WLFI) – Frankfort’s streets may soon be filled with cars, bikes and golf carts.
A new city ordinance recently passed five to two in the city of Frankfort, allowing for golf carts to share city roads with other motor vehicles.
It’s not exactly welcome news to Frankfort drivers.
“It could seriously injure some golfers potentially, because a van’s more powerful than a golf cart,” said Abbott.
“You’re in a hurry. You don’t see them. You might hit them. Or you’re frustrated, you’re wanting to go thirty, people might speed around them, and so I think it’s not going to be a good idea,” said City council member Rick Gunyon.
Gunyon was one of only two city council members to vote against the ordinance. He said his number one concern with the new rule was the safety problems it could pose.
“First and foremost, it’s public safety. I am concerned about the mix of golf carts and their speed and size and weight with conventional traffic on city streets. And I personally feel it’s not a real safe situation,” said Gunyon.
City Council member James Moyer tried to introduce the bill last year, and was only successful on his second time around.
He said he introduced the ordinance as a courtesy to two or three of his elderly constituents that want to drive the smaller carts around town.
He said if everyone simply stays alert, there should be no problem with the new ordinance.
“I think if drivers will just be courteous and drive defensively like they’re supposed to drive anyway, and if the golf cart operators will also be courteous and pull over when they see there are people coming up behind them, I don’t think there will be much of a problem,” said Moyer.
The golf carts will not be allowed on state roads and the city council will be revisiting this ordinance again next year, and could, at that time, decide to reverse it.
Walking around a golf course can seem endless if there is a heavy bag to tug around. Golf push carts can make golfing even more pleasurable by easing the heavy load of carrying golf clubs. The biggest seller in golf carts is the three wheeled golf cart. Golf push carts are easy to handle and push around the fairway, and will become a favorite for avid golfers.
Push carts made for carrying golf bags have been evolving and now include a variety of features. Some golf carts come with storage areas, handle-mounted brakes, systems that make it easy to fold and unfold them, umbrellas and mounts so a golfer does not need to stand under the hot sun, and even a drink holder.
Many companies sell different types and models of the three wheeled golf cart. These ergonomically designed carts are easier to manage around the course, and they handle the terrain smoothly. Many of them are made with aluminum making them lightweight and simple to fold, unfold, and store in the trunk of the car, or in a closet at home.
Golf push carts make a wonderful addition to any devoted golfers equipment. The three wheeled golf cart is handy to have around, especially on courses that do not allow electric golf carts to roam. There are many models to choose from and portability, lightweight, and sturdy are all great reasons to purchase one. Pick and choose, from a large selection, the type that is most appealing.
One of the best golf resorts in America, Bandon Dunes, is located just two hours north of Crescent City on the coast in Bandon, Ore.
Bandon was recently rated by Golf Digest Magazine for the first time as the number one golf resort in America, knocking the world-famous Pebble Beach Golf Links off the top spot.
Bandon Dunes has earned the No. 1 ranking for four fantastic golf courses, exceptional customer service, excellent lodging and food, and its affordability, especially in the winter.
Bandon’s quick journey to the top
Bandon has reached the number one golf resort ranking in just 12 years, which is remarkable in the golfing world. Three of the four layouts are rated by Golf Digest in the top 15 of America’s greatest 100 public golf courses. The fourth course, Old Macdonald, which hosted the prestigious U.S. Public Links Championship last summer, is sure to join their company when the biennial ratings come out next year.
The resort’s mission –– “Golf as it was meant to be” –– is embodied in everything it does. There are no motorized golf carts –– golfers either carry their bags, hire a caddy or use a push cart. And unlike many modern golf course “communities,” there are no pricey houses lining the fairways obstructing the stunning ocean-front setting.
The courses have a natural look featuring brown grasses and fairways with wild-looking, fierce sand bunkers all over the place. The golf holes seem like they were more “discovered” than man-created with tons of earth and sand moved with hulking machines. Mark Bergmann, the resort’s guest services manager, referred to this as Bandon Dunes’ “infamous minimalism.”
Resort owner Mike Keiser, who became wealthy with his Chicago-based Recycled Paper Greetings card company, bought 1,215 acres north of Bandon along the coast in 1991 for $2.4 million.
Keiser had fallen in love with the oceanside courses of Scotland and Ireland and searched for the right land to buy and create a “links-style” golf course. Links refers to the hard-packed sandy ground and dunes which lie between the ocean and inland soil. All four Bandon Dunes courses play hard and fast year-round because of their sandy bases. That’s a fact Del Norte golfers will appreciate during the rainy winter months.
Keiser’s first course, Bandon Dunes, is considered by golf-architecture experts as probably the closest version of a true Scottish links course in the U.S. Fittingly, it was designed by a young Scottish golf architect, David Kidd.
It opened to rave reviews and almost immediately started attracting golfers from all over the country.
Two years later, the Tom Doak-designed Pacific Dunes opened for play. It is also a Scottish links course with elements of Irish layouts. It was recently rated No. 2 on the list of greatest public courses behind Pebble Beach.
Both these courses do not look like any other course in America.
Bandon Trails, designed by former two-time Masters’ champion Ben Crenshaw and his partner Bill Coore, opened in 2005. It opens and ends amid huge sand dunes with the rest of the majestic and demanding holes winding through meadows and forest.
The fourth course, Old Macdonald, which opened in 2010, was inspired by the work of C.B. Macdonald, who, in 1910, designed one of America’s greatest links courses, The National, located on Long Island, N.Y. It was created by Tom Doak, Pacific Dunes’ designer, in partnership with Jim Urbina. It features wide fairways, intimidating bunkers and vast, undulating greens.
Old Macdonald features golf holes which emulate ones from famous courses around the globe, including courses in Scotland, Great Britain and The National in New York. The more one knows about these classic holes the more Old Macdonald is appreciated. However, the course is spectacular if one plays it without this historical knowledge.
On May 1, 2012, Bandon Dunes will open a unique, 13-hole, par-three course, Bandon Preserve. Like Bandon Trails, it will be designed by Crenshaw and Coore.
Bandon Preserve’s layout, featuring gorgeous ocean views from every hole, will be located on the land just north of the first tee at Bandon Trails. The Preserve will not be your father or grandfather’s pitch-and-putt, par-three course. As witnessed during a preview tour, these holes will challenge and stun golfers’ minds with nasty bunkers, high grass, tough greens and varying wind conditions. Bandon recently announced it is now booking tee times for the Preserve.
The resort envisions Bandon Preserve as an option for golfers who might want to start or finish their day with a quick and affordable par-three round, or have it sandwiched between two 18-hole loops.
Considering that it is only two hours away from Crescent City, Bandon Dunes can be considered a vacation getaway for golfing buddies, a foursome, a bigger group or even a couple. The lodging is understated –– like everything at the resort –– but excellent, and the customer service is unmatched along the North Coast.
The food and drinks are top-notch. The meatloaf and mashed potatoes in McKee’s Pub is not to be missed. The ocean view from the elevated Pacific Dunes Grill is spectacular. The Trails End restaurant at Bandon Trails has an adjacent glassed-in room with a fire pit. Be sure to enjoy the outdoor fireplaces outside McKee’s Pub and the Pacific Dunes Grill. For relaxation, the Bandon Dunes Lodge also features a sauna and hot tub for men and women.
For the fashion-conscious, the pro shop at Bandon Dunes has been rated the No. 1 golf shop for several years running by Golf Magazine because of the superb golf apparel.
“People keep coming back here because they are treated well,” said one of the resort’s outside services greeters, who only goes by the name “Shoe.”
Combine a joyful atmosphere, fine accommodations and great golf courses and it is clear why Bandon Dunes is at the top of the game.
There may be a perception among Del Norte area golfers that one has to be a part of a big group to get good deals at Bandon. That is not true.
The winter Bandon golfing rates are about a third of what a round will cost in the prime season of April 1 through October.
Through Jan. 29, Bandon is offering remarkable package deals. Just take a look at the weather forecast and if it is clear, one can book two-, three-or four-day excursions with a golf friend or a foursome.
Bandon Dunes understands that at this time of year the resort has the opportunity to cater to the hearty Northwest golfers of Del Norte, Oregon and Washington who understand what winter golfing weather is all about. Unlike other courses, the Bandon Dunes courses are built on a base of sand and do not get muddy in the rain.

Golfing accessories come in an unlimited number. One can spend large amounts of money on items that are entirely unnecessary. It is more prudent to avoid spending on worthless accessories, save money and buy those that may be useful through the entire course of a game. A golf cart is without a doubt one of the best accessories a golfer can purchase. It may not seem like sensible purchase but it helps one perform several tasks and is quite useful during a game of golf and may also give its owner a degree of emotional satisfaction. This positive mental state can be a boost to the quality of ones game. It is a well known fact that the way one plays is directly affected by his psychological state. Some of its many advantages are as described hereafter.
Large golf courses are hard to cover without the use of a golf cart. They greatly aid with the carrying of equipment from one part of the course to another. One does not need to buy his own golf cart as they are available for rent from many golf courses. However, the cost of renting a cart every time one plays exceeds the cost of buying one is you intend to play golf for a long time. Furthermore, one own golf cart can have several personalized features that are not available on the rented ones.
Golf Carts differ in several aspects including size. Some resemble extra large go karts. Such carts only have the capacity to carry the golfer and his personal equipment, though it will cost much less and will be low on fuel consumption. For golfers who play the game in the company of others, a golf cart with the capacity to carry two or four people as well as their respective equipment would be desired.
An important consideration to be made is the golf carts power. One should purchase a golf cart that will be able to carry passengers and equipment up a hill with ease and without the risk of backsliding. This is a very important factor since golf courses are hilly and therefore one will encounter a number of hills while moving through the course. This is not a problem one will encounter if you purchase a golf cart from a well known manufacturer.
The ride taken in a golf cart can be supplemented by installing a stereo system just as one would in a standard vehicle. This task is especially easy for those adept with electronics. This allows the golfer and his passengers if any to enjoy some music while traveling between courses. A large number of accessories and features can be added to the golf cart. The only limit to these features is an individual’s creativity. These improvements do not need to be completed all at once but rather can be done over a long period of time.
If you are engineer or are familiar with engineering procedures, you can assemble the golf cart yourself customizing it to your specifications. If you do not know how to go about doing this or simply cannot spare the time, you can ask golf cart manufacturer to undertake this task for you. This latter option may or may not be more costly than building one by yourself. A large number of companies sell carts to people who wish to buy them. If you manage to establish good contacts among them, the option of further customization in future will be made easier. Prior to ordering a golf cart clarify delivery procedures as well as the overall cost of the product to prepare to meet the bill. It is by no means a small endeavor; however with sufficient time and an adequate amount of money, this is an enjoyable task.
Over the weekend, 20,000 camels and their owners gathered in Abu Dhabi’s dusty Western Region in the hope of taking home a share of the AED 35 million (£5.83 million) prize money that’s up for grabs at the UAE’s largest heritage event: the Al Dhafrah Camel Festival.
The annual festival is to the UAE what Crufts is to the UK: A celebration of a nation’s love for an animal. Organised by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage, the festival was designed to preserve and revive the heritage, customs and traditions of the UAE, as well as to teach the younger generation about the ways of their forefathers, and to foster a sense of belonging among UAE nationals.
It’s also a golden opportunity for expats and tourists to learn first-hand about the Bedouin way of life.
Although the festival includes a camel auction, a competition to find the “most milky” camel and camel races, the most anticipated competition is the world’s largest camel beauty contest, the initial rounds of which got underway at the weekend. Last year, the prize for the overall winner was worth AED 1 million (£166,000).
Only pure-bred black- and brown-skinned camels (Majahim and Asayel respectively) native to the UAE or the Gulf may be entered. If there’s any doubt about the pedigree of a camel, the owners are required to swear an oath that it is pure-bred. The 15 judges will be looking for lips that hang down; a large, round hump; long, sharp ears; and hooves that are large and round. Over the next 11 days, there will be rounds for camels of different ages – as I believe is only fair for those camels losing their looks as they age.
Other attractions at the festival include a date-packaging contest, falcon and saluki beauty contests, handicrafts, photography, cookery and Nabati poetry competitions, a heritage market of stalls made from mud, wood and palm fronds, and a children’s village. This short videomade by The National newspaper gives you a good feel of what it’s like to be there.

One of the most innovative manufacturers of golf bags is Sun Mountain. This company is famous for releasing some of the most useful, durable and beautifully designed golf bags in the market. If you’re new to the game of golf and are planning to get a suitable bag, that’s not that expensive and will outlast some of the more recently released brands today, then you should definitely try to find Sun Mountain golf bags.
Sun Mountain is famous for their products mainly because of how long they would last. Most of the time bags easily show some wear and tear especially if being used constantly in different weather conditions. For some reason, this manufacturer avoids this mistake. Their products are very well made and you’ll instantly be able to tell once you look at one. This is probably one of the most noticeable facts about Sun Mountain golf bags because the developers put so much focus on this aspect of their products.
Another important factor that you won’t quite notice unless you try to do it is the easy cleanup process. A little soap and water and you’re basically done. This actually prolongs the lifespan of the product itself as you’ll be able to avoid scrubbing it. The other plus factor about this is that it basically saves you time and energy. Now you don’t have to cancel any plans of golfing because your Sun Mountain golf bags will always be as good as new.
Another thing that makes this brand very popular is the way the manufacturers make sure that the main purpose of having a golf bag is always put as the priority, which is its ability to store golf clubs and other equipment or items that are being brought when playing golf. This is very much covered as most, if not all Sun Mountain golf bags always have enough space to make sure you’re able to bring all of your golf clubs for a game or two.
These three qualities are what you’re basically going to notice most if you try out Sun Mountain. Your clubs are always going to have their own space in this brand. Some of them even have enough space to hold a lot of items in like golf balls, bottled water, and maybe the occasional snack or cigar. Finally, because of how easy it is to clean, you won’t have to worry about accidentally putting a rip into it unlike other bags.
More than fifteen percent of golfers experience problems with their knees, hips, or backs and this number is growing as Baby Boomers enter their golden years. Research and development of golf playing aids continues to offer improvements in assistive golf technology to satisfy the needs of the growing senior golf population.
One of the favorite assistive devices available to the able-bodied and disabled community is the electric golf caddy or trolley. Although the numerous cardiovascular health benefits of walking the golf course are widely known, the four or five hour trek is not easy an easy haul for everyone.
Even those who are able to make the walk with relative ease would rather focus their attention on their game than struggle with a 30 to 40 pound bag. Here is where the electric golf caddy or trolley shows what it’s advantages are. Compared to other options, the electric golf caddy proves itself to be the ideal means of getting around the course.
First, there is the option of walking with a golf bag not a comfortable notion for someone with knee, hip, or back problems. The process of lugging the bag, setting it down, picking it up, and walking with it from hole to hole is hard on the back and joints even for one who has no disability at all. Our golf caddy which has two models, in comparison makes carrying of your golf bag effortless. One model is remote control and the other is manual but both models feature high tech drive mechanisms and braking systems that provide effortless transporting of golf gear. These caddies let you focus your attention on the game. Research proves that this additional focus when using an electric caddy improves a golfer’s handicap.
Second is the option of a ride on golf cart is limited to where they can travel especially on courses where the carts are restricted to the paved pathways. These golf carts are also very damaging ecologically to the course. Golf carts you ride on do not provide any health benefits in comparison to walking. In comparison, the electric golf cart can go anywhere you do, and their light weight has no more negative impact on the course than that of a walker. This enhanced mobility can also speed up play, since you can go directly from Point A to Point B without being restricted to a cart path.
Third option is the push or pull cart. Even though this choice does provide cardiovascular benefits it lacks the convenience and remote control features of an electric caddy. The push or pull cart is no bargain in the effort and strain department, either, especially when you are traveling with it over hilly terrain.
Whether you select our remote control or manual control electric golf caddy, both models provide benefits and characteristics that makes choosing either one a winning move.
With their lightweight high-tech frames, both of our electric golf caddies are sturdily constructed and have durable bag support components. Both models come in silver, black or stainless steel finishes.
Both models are simple to setup. The manual control electric golf caddy sets up in one step with a fold design that has an adjustable height mechanism that locks. The remote control electric golf caddy features an easy two-step, one-click setup design.
Once the game day is over, preparing the electric caddy for transport is as easy as the setup. The easy fold design collapses the caddy into one piece to fit into any vehicle trunk with no need to remove the battery. Both of our electric golf caddies has a powerful long lasting battery which lasts for a minimum 27 holes on a full charge. (Battery and charger are included with your purchase.)In the unlikely event that your battery ever did run out of juice, both models can be easily pushed without power. Both models feature battery charge indicators.
The manual electric golf caddy has a powerful noiseless motor, while the remote controlled electric golf caddy has two powerful independently controlled noiseless motors. Both models can be used with ease with a seamless rheostat speed control with torque wheel control.
They also come with a cruise control button; if you press it after you stop, the caddy automatically goes back to your regular speed.
The remote control electric golf caddy has a wide-range remote control, features directional controls (forward, sideways, and reverse), a timed advance function, and emergency and soft coasting stop functions. It gives you full control up to 120 yards, and stops automatically if it does not receive commands from the remote control within 25 seconds.
The electric golf caddies will never leave you stranded out on the course. Read the testimonials on our site. Both models have durable wheels for great traction and maneuverability. Both models come with a score card holder and other accessories are available.
Assistive golf aids like the electric golf caddy restore recreation and ability to the growing number of seniors and disabled golfers who might not otherwise be able to play the game due to physical discomfort and mobility challenges. The electric golf caddy is an assistive golf aid that cannot be beat for convenience, comfort and especially value.
Stainless Steel Trolleys are widely used in many industries, and are very commonly used in the catering and medical industries. They are made from stainless steel, because of the advantages it can offer. It is a metal which is manufactured with steel and chromium, and this makes it virtually rustproof, however it is not completely stain proof.
Catering and medical trolleys are manufactured from high grade stainless steel, and electro-polished to give a bright finish and sterile qualities, which is ideal for catering and medical purposes. These trolleys are available in a wide range of styles, and generally consist of two or more shelves fixed within a frame, and made mobile by the use of wheels or castors, mounted on the end of the legs. Most stainless steel trolleys resemble a typical tea trolley, and some units may have two or even four braked wheels.
Most trolleys have the following attributes;
o They are easy to assemble if supplied flat packed o High quality steel makes them ideal for most catering requirements o They are easy to manoeuvre and are fitted with four castors o Two of the wheels are braked o HygIenic – easy to clean and sterilize o They can be supplied fully welded
These trolleys are available in a range of styles and sizes and a typical trolley will have dimensions of around:
o Height 850mm : Width 450mm : Length 900mm (approx.)
Other types of trolley are also available and this can include heavy duty trolleys, which are manufactured for more durability.
Heavy duty trolleys are generally constructed from 304 quality stainless steel with a bright brushed finish. Most units have a 2mm thick worktop mounted on 40mm square tube framing, and completed with 100mm diameter stainless steel castors with non-marking tyres. These types of trolley are capable of handling loads of up to 150kg or even more.
These trolleys may have from 1 to 4 stainless steel shelves incorporated into their structure, and units are available with built in stainless steel cabinets.
They are widely used in the medical and catering industries, due to their durable, HygIenic, easy to clean and long lasting qualities. Many trolleys have 2 or 3 removable tray combinations, and the trays may have a raised outer edge or upstand to prevent items from falling off. Some trolleys may have a lift off top tray with integral handles, and the trays locate securely around the frame.
A typical medical trolly will have the following dimensions (approx.)
o Height 860mm : Width 460mm : Depth 520mm
Trolleys are available for self assembly or can be supplied fully welded.
