The users group is composed of representatives of golfers and town officials who meet to discuss issues surrounding the golf course.
Caravella, who said he wasn’t able to attend the group’s most recent meeting, said he will not take a position on the proposed increase until he has more information on how the fees would help the golf course’s operation.
Joseph Siciliano, the town’s director of Parks and Recreation, said the golf fees are part of an overall 1.2 percent increase in the department’s proposed $4.2 million revenue budget for the 2012-13 fiscal year.
Siciliano said the department tries to keep increases low to avoid sticker shock.
“The overall goal of the department is to annually review its modest incremental increases to the fees and we look at some level of alternation,” he said. “We alternate some fees, we are not upgrading every category every year.”
Under the proposed fee schedule, boaters who are town residents won’t see any changes in their fees for docking at town facilities during the boating season in the coming year.
The Board of Selectmen will discuss and vote on the proposed fees at its Dec. 15 meeting, First Selectman Peter Tesei said.
While some fees are set to increase, others are due to remain the same, including beach fees, Tesei said.
Tesei said he hasn’t heard much comment on the proposed fee schedule, but expects that will change as more people become aware of it.
“I would expect we will begin to hear some opinions on the fees,” Tesei said. “That’s the whole reason that we make a point of presenting it.”
Siciliano briefed the Board of Selectmen on the fees at the board’s Dec. 1 meeting.
